CASES

News stories about claims of music copyright infringement appear fairly regularly in legal and more mainstream publications. Few of these disputes go to trial, and fewer still generate published judicial opinions. Since the 1840s United States federal courts have published over 150 opinions dealing with this issue, although there has been a dramatic increase in the number of cases over the past thirty years. With this relatively modestly proportioned body of information we have organized the cases chronologically by year.
